Last 19 March 2006, Sunday, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Secretary of State of Pope Benedict XVI, together with the Mayor of Rome, Hon. Walter Veltroni and the Superior General of the Rogationists, Fr. Giorgio Nalin, inaugurated a new statue of St. Hannibal Mary Di Francia in Piazza Asti, right in front of our Parochial Church of St. Anthony in Rome.
The authorization of the project was given by the municipal administration through the auspices of the Mayor.
The masterpiece was done by Prof. Corrado Piazza at the Studio Demetz of Ortisei. It was patterned from the work done by a spanish sculptor, Victor de los Rios.
It represents Fr. Hannibal as educator and teacher of children, typical of his apostolate, aside from being a man of prayer and charity, a noted preacher, writer and social worker.
